Night Owl Lures
Just finished the book. Outstanding! I am already recommending it to friends. So glad we struck up a conversation about Butcher. Brings back a bunch of memories. The letters from Gasgoine you refer to was a fur buyer 10 minutes from home who was the person I bought my Butcher lures from and sold fur to. Right on his kitchen table...ha ha ha! Take care and thank you for the copy of the book.

“
We trappers take a lot for granted these days. The equipment available to us today is second to none. But it wasn't always like that. Mr. Dahm's new book describes the extensive process of finalizing the details to build a workable body-gripping trap.
The intense "behind the scenes" that took place over 60 years ago was a big surprise to me. ”

“
Prolific historical trapping writer Scot Dahms, has written another fine, very detailed book based on Canadian trapper Frank Conibear and the development of his Conibear trap.
This book of almost 400 pages is loaded with the history and stories of how this Canadian trapper first got the idea for the body gripping trap. And then proceeded into the years of many trials and tribulations that went into refining the construction of the trap to get it finally to function the way he and his financial bakers expeted. ”

Without injecting editorial opinions, Dahms gives us a very interesting summary of the company history, trap manufacturing history, and maybe most noteworthy, the patriotism and support that America felt during the dark days of World War II.

Book Review: E.J. Dailey: The Last Adirondack Trapper, 1889-1973 By Scot Dahms
"As the trapping industry continues to evolve in the face of urbanization and the animal rights movement, it is wise to look back at the pioneers of our industry. History is important because it helps us appreciate our ideological ancestors as well as learn from their stories, experiences, advice and failures. Mr. Dahms has helped us to do that by compiling information about the life of a trapper who truly did it all, named EJ Dailey."
